International drivers are welcome to rent utes in Gold Coast. You just need to hold a full unrestricted driver licence from your home country, with a formal English translation if it is in another language.
Our pricing works slightly differently from traditional car rental companies. When you borrow a car with Uber Carshare, you pay for both the time you have the car and the distance you drive, as well as your damage cover and booking fee.
Uber Carshare trips are covered through Mobility Mutual - a member-owned mutual risk protection fund that’s specifically designed for our car-sharing community. Each time you borrow a car with Uber Carshare you will be able to select the excess option which best suits your needs.
With Uber Carshare you can access hundreds of utes parked on streets and in car parks all over Gold Coast. There’s probably one within a few minutes walk from your home!
No credit card? No problem. Once you’ve joined up, you can hire a car without a credit card. We accept any Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card - just make sure it has the necessary funds available! Note that members will be charged a $150 deposit on their first booking, which will be returned after the trip is completed.

Hiring a ute on the Gold Coast - useful information
You can hire a ute at the Gold Coast from a car hire agency or through a car-sharing service like Uber Carshare.
Uber Carshare is really flexible because you can book a ute by the hour or the day. With a hire car company you’ll be charged for a whole day, even if you only need the ute for an hour or two. It’s also much easier to book, pick up and return the ute. There’s no paperwork: just join Uber Carshare and book a ute for the time you need it using the app. You can pick up and return the ute at a time that suits you – just follow the instructions in the app to get the keys and get on the road.
How much does it cost to hire a ute in the Gold Coast?
If you hire a ute from a rental agency in the Gold Coast, it’ll probably cost you around $100 a day. You’ll pay a daily rate, plus the fuel you use and extra fees to reduce your cover excess. With Uber Carshare you can borrow a ute in the Gold Coast from $8 an hour or $35 a day, plus distance. Reducing your excess will cost just $0.40 an hour or $5 a day.
Do I need a special licence to drive a ute in the Gold Coast?
You can drive a ute on a normal car licence. A car licence allows you to drive any car, ute or van that’s under 4.5 tonnes and has up to 12 seats.
